11 DAYS IN THE SIERRA TARAHUMARA!

Hello dear friends, I am writing again your friend Pedro Palma, guide with more than 30 years of experience in the Sierra Tarahumara and Barrancas del Cobre, I tell you that this December I am returning from a very long trip of 11 days in the canyons.

The first day we left the airport in Chihuahua and immediately headed to Creel, the weather was not inviting to go out as it was cold and rainy but we decided to explore the area and ended up in the mystical valley of the monks.

Back at the hotel we enjoyed a delicious dinner of wood-fired pizzas and craft beer.

The thermometer read -6 during the early morning.

Day 2: It is 7 am and I take my visitors to the El Chepe Express station as they will be traveling to Bahuichivo and I leave in the van to wait for them and take a tour to Temoris and from there back to Bahuichivo to head to the bottom of the Barranca de Urique, Of course we made a short stop to appreciate the Barranca at sunset and we arrived at the town of Urique where we stayed two nights to explore the area where we visited La Mesa del Naranjo, Guapalaina and Guadalupe Coronado and without cold because here is tropical climate.

We left this beautiful Barranca and arrived in Porochi to visit Miguel Lara who is an ultra marathon champion and was in the mountains taking care of his goats with his 7 year old son.

When we arrived at his ranchito we were greeted by his wife Maribel who was taking care of his two month old daughter Elvira.

His mother also appeared and offered to go in search of Miguel and we offered to go with her but she did not accept and immediately ran off in search of him.

She returned with Miguel and we were able to chat and learn about his running technique.

We left for El Divisadero to spend the night.

In the morning we were able to enjoy a beautiful sunrise while enjoying a delicious coffee on our balcony.

We visited the adventure park where our visitors were able to enjoy the 7 zip line circuit.

We headed to Creel making a stop in the Barranca de Oteros to visit Mrs. Catalina in her house nestled in a small cave with a wonderful view.

Arriving in Creel we headed to Cusarare to visit a beautiful waterfall.

Here we met the daughter and granddaughter of Antonio Camilo, perhaps the only musician who still plays the Chapareke, a Raramuri musical instrument.

I offered her that after our visit when we reached the road I could take them to their house. Surprise I found them 12 kilometers ahead just where from the road they take a path to their house, it is incredible the way they walk and run!

We left for Guachochi after a short visit to Maria a Raramuri woman who lives in a cave, it was very cold and there was still ice on the rocky trail where we walked from the van.

One of our visitors gave Maria a jacket and a blanket and we continued our journey.

It was still early and we decided to visit the majestic Barranca de Sinforosa and El Jaguar, we were very lucky with an amazing sunset!

We checked into the hotel for two nights.

In the morning we left to make our visits to Tonachi with its Salto Grande, a beautiful waterfall, we did not visit the Salto Chico to be able to leave towards Guachochi, pick up some delicious burritos of roast pork and be able to reach Kokoyome and have light to walk to the waterfalls that are there.

Without a doubt it is an incredible place full of beautiful scenery. Our host told us the history of this place and its ancient inhabitants.

And from there we went through the beautiful mining town of Parral and back to Chihuahua!

A great adventure without a doubt through the Copper Canyon!
